LemonSlice turns any image into a real-time AI avatar that talks with people on a video call. See LemonSlice pricing, what’s free and the Cartoon Model.
LemonSlice got a fresh wave of attention on October 16, 2026, when it launched a Cartoon Model that brings mascots, anime characters and even talking objects to life in real time. If you’ve seen a demo and want to know what LemonSlice is, whether it’s free and what it really costs per minute, this page has the answers, with prices checked on LemonSlice’s official pricing page on October 20, 2026.
What is LemonSlice?
LemonSlice makes interactive AI avatars: digital characters that listen, talk and respond to people in real time inside a video call. Unlike avatar tools that render a pre-recorded clip, LemonSlice generates every frame on the fly, so lips, facial expressions and body language react as the conversation happens. You can put one on your website or inside your own app. Its homepage describes the setup in three steps:
- Pick or upload any image. No training or character rig is needed. If it has a face, LemonSlice can animate it.
- Connect a language model and voice. Bring your own LLM, voice provider and knowledge base, such as OpenAI, Claude, ElevenLabs or Cartesia.
- Go live. Deploy with a widget, a hosted pipeline or your own pipeline through the API. LemonSlice claims 471ms p99 latency.
Behind it are LemonSlice’s own models: LemonSlice-2.1, a 20B-parameter model that animates a character at 20 fps from one photo, and Character World Model-1 (CWM-1), which adds controllable actions and emotions, plus faster Flash, low-cost CWM-1 Lite and high-resolution Pro variants on higher plans.

What’s new: the LemonSlice Cartoon Model
The Cartoon Model, launched October 16, 2026, is a real-time avatar model trained for cartoon characters rather than photorealistic people. LemonSlice says it delivers exaggerated expressions with lively head and body movement, keeps lip sync working on unusual mouth shapes, and handles 3D mascots, anime, storybook illustrations, animals, creatures and talking objects, all from a single reference image.
To use it, choose the Cartoon model in your avatar’s settings in the LemonSlice playground, or set the model to “cartoon” when you start a session through the API. It’s available on all subscription plans, from Starter up.

Is LemonSlice free?
Only partly. The Free tier lets you chat with the avatars featured on lemonslice.com with no subscription or credit card. That’s a good way to judge the quality, but creating your own avatars and using the API both require a paid plan, starting at $8 a month.
LemonSlice Pricing (2026)
LemonSlice charges a monthly subscription that includes a pool of call minutes, then bills extra minutes. Here are the plans on its pricing page on October 20, 2026:
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (per month) | Minutes included | Extra minute | Max call length |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Featured avatars only | – | – |
| Starter | $8 | $7 | 41 | $0.22 | 30 min |
| Creator | $40 | $33 | 220 | $0.19 | 30 min |
| Professional | $100 | $83 | 610 | $0.19 | 30 min |
| Scale | $240 | $200 | 1,463 | $0.19 | 30 min |
| Ultra | $960 | $800 | 6,000 | $0.18 | 2 hours |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | 24+ hours |

- Hosted avatars cost extra: if LemonSlice runs the speech recognition, LLM and voice for you (the widget or hosted API), add $0.11 a minute on Starter, $0.10 on Creator and $0.09 on higher plans.
- Idle time counts: calls are billed from the moment a call is requested until the session ends, and idle time costs the same as talking.
- Unused minutes roll over for as long as you stay subscribed, but you lose them if you cancel.
- Ultra unlocks the newest models: CWM-1, CWM-1 Lite and the faster Flash model, plus 2-hour calls and up to 100 simultaneous sessions.
Our math: included minutes work out to about $0.20 a minute on Starter, $0.18 on Creator and about $0.16 on Professional and above, before any hosted pipeline fees. LemonSlice advertises rates “as low as $0.048/min”, which applies at much higher volume, not on the entry plans.

How to get started with LemonSlice
- Try a featured avatar for free on lemonslice.com to hear the latency and see the lip sync.
- Pick a plan. Starter is enough to build and test one avatar.
- Create your avatar from a single image, then choose LemonSlice-2.1 for realistic characters or the Cartoon model for mascots and illustrated characters.
- Connect the brain: use the hosted pipeline, or bring your own LLM and voice. Paid plans include custom voices you can design or clone from a 15-second sample.
- Embed it on your site with the widget, or build it into your app with the API.
Who LemonSlice is for
- Support and sales teams that want a face on their website assistant.
- Education and kids’ apps that need a friendly mascot or tutor character, which is where the Cartoon Model fits.
- Games and consumer apps with interactive characters. CWM-1 Lite on Ultra targets low-cost, high-volume use.
- Museums and installations, through the high-resolution Pro model on Enterprise.
- Not for pre-recorded videos: if you just need a talking-head video for ads or training, a video avatar tool is a better fit.
Limitations
- No free avatar creation: the Free tier only covers featured avatars.
- Minutes go fast: Starter’s 41 minutes is less than two 30-minute calls.
- Best models are expensive: CWM-1 and Flash start on Ultra at $960 a month.
- Call limits: calls end at 30 minutes on every plan below Ultra.
- Extra costs stack: hosted pipelines and calls above your concurrency limit (billed at 2x) add to the bill.
LemonSlice alternatives
- HeyGen: best known for AI avatar videos and UGC-style ads rather than live calls. See our HeyGen review.
- Other AI person tools: our guide to making an AI person compares tools for realistic AI people in images and video.
- Voice first: if you only need a talking agent without a face, start with a voice platform like ElevenLabs, which you can also connect to LemonSlice.
Verdict
LemonSlice is one of the few tools that makes a live, two-way video avatar from a single image, and the new Cartoon Model gives it a clear edge for mascots and characters that photoreal avatar tools can’t animate. Try the free featured avatars first. If the latency and expressions suit your product, Starter at $8 a month is a cheap way to build a prototype, but budget for Creator or higher once real users start calling.
