Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive agent app, in a US waitlist preview for Pro and Max. See how to join, what it costs, its limits and what it does.

Anthropic announced Claude Duet on October 21, 2026. It’s a separate app where Claude acts as a proactive agent: it sends you a morning brief, watches your connected apps, works on tasks in the background and asks before it does anything important. If you searched for “anthropic duet”, this is the same product. We checked the announcement, the Claude Help Center and Claude’s pricing page on October 24, 2026.

Can you use Claude Duet yet?

Only if you get an invite. Claude Duet is a research preview, and you need all three of these:

  • A Claude Pro or Max plan. Team and Enterprise plans aren’t included yet.
  • A Claude account in the US. The preview is US-only.
  • An invitation from the waitlist. Anthropic sends invites in waves, with no promised date.

The app runs on iPhone and Android, and Claude Duet also works on claude.ai. Unlike the regular Claude app, it’s built around one ongoing thread that you type or speak into.

How to join the Claude Duet waitlist

  1. Open the Claude Duet product page and select Join the waitlist.
  2. Enter your name and email. Use the same email as your Claude account.
  3. Pick your Claude plan and your phone type (iPhone or Android). You can also say what you’d hand off first.
  4. Submit, then wait for the invitation email.
  5. Open the email on your phone and sign in with the Apple or Google account tied to that same email address.

The most common reason people don’t get in is an email mismatch. Access is tied to the address you gave on the waitlist, so it has to match both your Claude account and the account on your phone.

Claude Duet Pricing (2026)

Claude Duet has no price of its own during the preview. It’s included in Claude’s paid plans and uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude:

PlanPriceClaude Duet
Free$0Not included
Pro$20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly ($200 up front)Included, by waitlist
MaxFrom $100 a month (5x or 20x Pro usage)Included, by waitlist
Team and EnterpriseSeparate business pricingNot available yet
From claude.com/pricing and the Claude Help Center, checked October 24, 2026. Prices exclude tax.

The catch is usage, not money. Duet draws on your five-hour session and weekly limits at the same rate as chat, and its background work counts too: the morning brief, check-ins and long tasks like building a financial model all use turns. Anthropic says it checks your accounts every few hours instead of nonstop for exactly this reason. To soften the hit, people admitted to the preview get one full limit reset, usable until November 30, 2026.

Our take: on Pro, a busy Duet can eat into the limits you use for normal chat and Claude Code. If you plan to lean on it daily, Max is the safer plan.

What Claude Duet can do

  • Morning brief: a short summary each morning of what matters across your connected apps.
  • Background work: it has its own cloud computer and browser, so tasks keep running after you close the app.
  • Real tasks: scheduling, replying to missed Gmail and Slack messages, chasing unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe, preparing payroll in Gusto, drafting HubSpot follow-ups and building dashboards, forecasts and web apps.
  • 6,000+ connectors: it can use the connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, plus the memory and skills already in your Claude account.
  • Purchases with approval: it can buy things with Stripe’s Link wallet using a virtual card, or check out with Shop Pay.

It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and decides how much effort each job needs. If you’re new to agents and connectors, our explainers on what MCP is and what AI agents are cover the basics.

Safety: what it won’t do without you

Before Duet sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it’s about to do and waits for approval. Some actions are blocked even if you approve them, such as trading securities, moving money between accounts or getting into someone else’s account. A separate classifier blocks sharing card numbers and government ID numbers. That’s a sensible design, but it doesn’t remove the basic risks of letting an agent into your inbox. Our guide on whether AI agents are safe explains what to watch for.

Limitations

  • US Pro and Max only: no access in other countries or on Team and Enterprise plans yet.
  • No model choice: it always runs on Claude Opus 5.5.
  • You can’t watch it work: there’s no live view of its browser and you can’t take over.
  • Not real time: it checks your accounts at intervals, so urgent items can land between checks.
  • No calls or texts: it won’t phone or text other people. Microsoft 365 isn’t supported yet, and Slack works with limits.
  • Work first: Anthropic says personal errands like booking tickets aren’t as strong yet.
