Momo: AI Photo & Video Maker (momoai.co) is the iPhone and Android app that went viral in late September 2026 with AI headshots, dance videos and trend filters. It is also one of the most complained-about apps in the store right now, mostly because of how it charges. Here is what it costs, how the coins work and what users say.
What is Momo AI and why is it trending?
Momo is made by ScaleUp (listed on the App Store as SCALEUP YAZILIM HIZMETLERI ANONIM SIRKETI). You upload selfies, pick a style or photo pack, and it generates AI portraits, trend photos and short videos. The App Store listing mentions realistic headshots, an AI Twin generator and aging effects, and the Google Play listing adds AI dance videos, hairstyle changes and upscaling.
A social-media-led push drove it to #2 on the overall US free App Store chart on September 25, 2026, then it fell to #87 by October 3, according to MWM analytics. It is not a new product: the app has been around since late 2022. Many searches now ask whether it is legit and how to cancel.
How Momo AI works
- Train your profile: the website says you pick 8 to 12 photos of yourself so the AI learns your face.
- Pick a pack or style: business headshots, mini-me, pregnancy photos, photoshoots, trend filters and videos.
- Spend coins: each generation costs coins, and the cost varies by model, resolution and type of output.
- Save and share: download the results or post them straight to social apps.
Momo AI Pricing (2026)
We checked the US App Store listing on October 10, 2026. Momo has no pricing page on its website; the paid options are in-app purchases, and Momo’s own help center says plans, prices and trial offers vary by region and platform. The UK listing shows the same numbers in pounds.
| What you buy | US price | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly subscription | $6.99, $9.99, $11.99 or $14.99 per week | Premium access; 60 coins at the start and 60 more at each renewal. The listing shows four weekly price points |
| Yearly subscription | $39.99 per year | Premium access billed once a year |
| 60 coins | $3.99 | Extra coins on top of your plan |
| 120 coins | $4.99 | Extra coins on top of your plan |
| 240 coins | $6.99 | Extra coins on top of your plan |
Weekly billing adds up fast. At $6.99 a week, a subscription you never cancel costs about $363 a year; at $14.99 it is about $779. The yearly plan at $39.99 is far cheaper, if you are offered it.
Is Momo AI free? Only to download. On the App Store it is listed as Free with in-app purchases, and generating photos or videos needs a subscription and coins. Momo’s refund policy says its website has a limited free tier of three message requests; everything beyond that is paid.
How do I cancel? Deleting the app does not cancel billing. On iPhone, go to Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, pick Momo and cancel. On Android, use Google Play, Payments and subscriptions. Momo’s help center lists the steps.
Momo AI complaints and refunds
The app is rated 4.4 stars from about 92,000 App Store ratings and 4.2 on Google Play, but recent reviews are much harsher. MWM reported on October 5 that 78.3% of the app’s reviews in the previous 30 days were 1-star. The same MWM report and the store reviews point to the same problems:
- Two paywalls: reviewers say a weekly plan is not enough and that you must also buy coins before anything generates.
- Coin costs jump: one App Store reviewer says deleting a trained model made photo packs cost 120 coins instead of 6.
- Generations that fail: reviewers describe stuck jobs, an “under maintenance” screen right after paying, and coins used with no result.
- Cancellation trouble: a Google Play reviewer says the cancel option in settings would not open; Momo’s reply asks users to contact support.
- Unclear trial: a Google Play reviewer says the 7-day trial cost $5 and covered only two videos.
Refunds are hard. For App Store or Google Play purchases, Momo’s help center says it cannot issue refunds, so you must ask Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google. Coins used for finished creations cannot be refunded, and coin packs are non-refundable unless a technical error occurred. Only purchases made on momoai.co qualify under the refund policy: you must ask within two calendar days and have run no more than two generations.
Best use cases for Momo AI
- Profile and CV photos: quick AI headshots from selfies.
- Social trends: viral dance videos and trend filters for TikTok and Instagram.
- Fun edits: hairstyle, aging and baby-version effects.
- Dance videos: Shots AI uses a similar weekly-plan-plus-coins model, so compare the limits first.
Limitations
- Costs stack: a weekly plan plus coin packs can pass $10 in one session, as one reviewer reports.
- Prices vary: four weekly price points are listed, and the one you see depends on region and offer.
- Support: Momo says it cannot manage Apple or Google subscriptions or refunds.
- Reliability: recent reviews describe failed generations and maintenance screens.
- Privacy: you upload photos of your face, so read the privacy notice first.
Momo AI alternatives

TechPilot.ai’s Verdict on Momo AI
Momo AI does make quick, shareable AI photos and videos, and the app is easy to use. The problem is the price structure: a weekly subscription that also needs coin packs, plus a wave of recent complaints about failed generations and refunds.
If you want to try it, check the exact price on the paywall, set a reminder to cancel, and avoid buying large coin packs until you have seen a result. For occasional use, a one-off tool or a cheaper monthly app is the safer choice.
